How to Travel Long Distances in an Even Longer Period of Time

Alana and I finally made it to St. Thomas, we were able to get a lot done despite the fact that we just arrived on the island this morning.

The voyage here was arduous to say the least. Long flights and even longer layovers simply don't lend themselves well to the human body. Especially one that has been traveling in planes, trains, and automobiles for the last seventy two hours.

The culmination of all our travel woes was the eight and a half hour layover had the joy of experiencing in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Now, I have nothing against Puerto Rico, as our time there allowed me to practice a little Spanish while ordering food. However, when your plane arrives at 12:30 am and there is nothing to do your only recourse is to attempt to sleep. I use the word sleep very, very loosely as trying to sleep in this airport was like trying to sleep in a meat locker.

Being that I am so resourceful I thought I would prepare for the temperate clime
by wearing shorts and a tee shirt. As you can imagine I spent my night shivering, trying to retain any remaining iota of body heat. Alana managed to get some sleep by using the clothes in her bag as blankets. And by the way, there are NO beds in the air-port. Instead we decided on the comfort of the floor.

Once morning hit we got on the plane and it was only a short flight to St. Thomas ( about 20 minutes ). This was a little frustrating as we had waited so long to travel such a short distance.

Once on the Island we stopped by the At&t store and got our cheap pre-paid phones and then It was a calling around to try find an apartment. We are going apartment hunting on Thursday.

After a quick nap we headed to the beach for a great way to finish the evening, Watching the surfers catch the waves in hull bay.

And to make our welcome to the island complete we were treated to a dry ramen dinner when the water supply ran out for the night!

Tomorrow we are off to the infamous bmv (bureau of motor vehicles) to get our car! Hope my driving improves as I have to learn how to drive stick on the wrong side of the road!
